Lian Quan Zhen
Lian Quan Zhen was a physician in China until 1985 when he immigrated to the U.S. He received a B.A. from the University of California/Berkeley in 1992 and an M.A. in Architecture from M.I.T. in 1996. He has had many one-man shows and has works in numerous institutional and private collections. Lian has been teaching Chinese and watercolor painting since 1994 across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and China. Watercolor 94 Spring, Splash 4, The Splendor of Light, Collectors, and Landscape in Watercolor have featured his work. His book, Chinese Painting Techniques for Exquisite Watercolors is currently in its third printing.

In the two-day Chinese painting session, students learn
how to use the Chinese brushes, ink and colors, as well
as the theory of Asian Art, and using the techniques to
paint two styles of Chinese paintings. During the three-day
watercolor painting session, students learn basic techniques
such as composition and coloring, as well as Lian’s techniques
including “Color Pouring and Blending.” There are many short
demos with student practices between that allow students to
learn easier. Also, there are critique sessions when Lian helps
students by touching up their paintings. Every student will finish
several paintings at the workshop. |
