Robert J. O’Brien has been painting in the watercolor medium for over 35 years. “The contrast in value between light and shadow is critical in establishing a focal point for my compositions,” says the artist. O’Brien received his Bachelor of Arts degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo and has studied with various watercolor masters throughout his long career in art. Robert O’Brien is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society. He is also affiliated with the New England Watercolor Society, Southern Vermont Artists, the Vermont Watercolor Society and others.

This course will be geared to the beginning and
intermediate watercolor painter with landscape
being the focus of study. The student will learn
glazing techniques, color theory and mixing,
composition, values, painting light and shadow,
wet-on-wet technique, drybrush technique and
other methods useful in the creative process of
watercolor painting. The instructor recommends
that the student have drawing experience. O’Brien
will offer lectures and live demonstrations for each
step of the painting process. Ample painting time
will be set aside for each student in a studio setting.
Group critiques will be held, as the instructor finds
that students can and do learn much from each other’s
efforts and comments. |
