Drawing and painting the figure is the most challenging
and rewarding experience for all artists - and a special
joy for landscape artists who watch the effect on their
work. This is a five day workshop (two days of drawing
and three days of painting) where students are encouraged
to develop their own style while painting nude male and
female models. While the course is open to beginners,
advanced students will be challenged by the curriculum.
Participants will be shown examples of many artists and
encouraged to adopt styles that appeal to them. In this
course, there are no absolutes when it comes to presenting
the figure.
The first two days will be set aside for drawing. By using short
and long poses, participants will experience the movement as
well as the features of the model. The third day will focus on
light and dark values that are an integral part of figure painting.
We will also explore the use of brushwork and painting knives
and their impact on the figure. The last two days will encourage
students to use a wide range of colors and explore the role of
abstraction and representation. There will be a minimum of two
critiques a day.
Students may use any medium although the class schedule will
assume acrylic paint. At the end of the course, selected works of
each student will be shown at a wine and cheese party.
