Cold wax medium, a combination of beeswax, resin and mineral spirits adds body, texture, and transparency to oil paint. In this class we will look at the history and contemporary uses of cold wax medium as an addition to your palette for the impact it provides. Participants will explore mixing cold wax medium with oil paints to build layers, create textures, paint wet into wet, mix colors and try excavation. Cold wax and canvas paper for oils will be provided. ($25 materials fee for cold wax & paper included in price.) All levels welcome.

Dona Mara is a painter with a 40-year continued exploration in two dimensional space and surface. Her paintings are infused with an abstracted vision of nature and an individual field of color, line and texture, influenced by her personal connection to her surroundings. She exhibits regularly in the regional Northeast and is included in numerous private collections throughout the U.S.

She is currently exhibiting the largest concept solo show of her career REFLECTIONS – The Intangible Things at stART Space in Manchester, VT (on view through July 20, 2019).

On her artistic practice, Dona Mara says, “My paintings are dealing with planes of space that convey implied places of interest, beauty and wonder. Often a painting begins as I glimpse a particular textural field through a screened or rainy window. A visceral desire to connect to nature, learning to change and flow through seasons with light, color, texture and form, guides my choices. The suggestion and ambiguity without absolute representation creates a simplicity, while the continued hope is that the viewer is drawn into the work, finding a resting place, or a human connection.”
